Patchwork & Craft Classes

I have scheduled a selection of patchwork and craft classes for this first term of 2014
Applique Quilt Class - 3 Tuesdays 18 Feb, 4 March & 18 March 7-9pm
OR Sunday 9 March 9:30 - 4pm
Dianne has designed this gorgeous applique quilt to showcase a few different techniques - fusible applique with decorative machine stitches around the raw edges (could be done by hand but will take much longer to do) machine quilting and then put the piece together using Quilt-As-You-Go methods.

Table Runners - Wednesday 12 March 7-9pm
Dianne has designed this table runner which is easy to make, no binding and can be embellished with appliques. Your choice of colour and quilting and appliques makes the difference. See my samples -

Music Quilt Wednesday 26 March 7-9pm
Would you like to try something different design wise? Dianne created this quilt design for the Bernina Music Challenge. It only uses 2 fabrics. Dianne will help you create a quilt of your own and show you how this technique works.

Fabric Vases - Saturday 29 March 1-4pm
With the recent 6.2 earthquake I lost 4 lovely glass vases so I thought I would like to try some that won't get broken - All done on the machine using lovely fabrics and a variety of shapes you can use.

You can put a glass jar/vase inside these and hide it.

Mixed Media Playtime - Tuesday 1 April 7-9pm
Would you like to play with mixed media items? Dianne has been playing with Lutradur, xpandapaint, heatguns, paint, stamps, stencils and butter muslin to make these wonderful shapes and creations. Can be incorporated into patchwork and quilted or placed onto canvas. Come along and create your own unique art.

Garden Trellis Quilt - Sunday April 6th 10am - 4pm OR Wednesday Feb 26th and Thursday Feb 27th 7-9pm

Come along and see how easy it is to create this lovely quilt. Your squares can be straight or 'on point' like mine. Dianne can show you some variations including an Argyle design and using a single or double trellis. Very simple to put together even though it may seem complicated.

Machine Quilting
Tuesday 17 Sept and/or Thursday 10 Oct 7pm - 9pm  NZ$15 each night
Would you like to improve your machine quilting skills? You have the basics but need practice, come along on one or both nights and Dianne will guide you on your quilting journey.

Chevron Quilt
Sunday 22 Sept 10am - 4pm NZ$40
Dianne has found 6 different methods for putting together a Chevron Quilt. This style is all the rage in the US at present, why not try it out for yourself? She will show you all 6 methods, you choose the one you want to make your quilt with (or try out all 6) and Dianne will show you how to create a very modern style quilt.

Using Gel Mediums

Tuesday 8 Oct 7pm - 9pm NZ$15

Dianne will show you how to use Gel Mediums with fabric. It can be used in mixed media styles and contemporary patchwork, you can make gel transfers on fabric and stitch through it. Dianne will show you several ways this will work with fabric. Call in and see some samples

This is an image from a magazine that I have covered with gel medium and made into something like a decal.

Modern Christmas Tree Quilt or Runner

Wednesday 16 Oct 7pm - 9:30pm NZ$20

Dianne has created a modern and easy to sew Christmas Tree pattern that can be used for table runners, placemats, quilts etc. Whilst Dianne made hers using all white as a background you could use different colours for the backgrounds.

Scrap Sensations

Sunday 20 Oct 10am - 4pm NZ$40

Make a quilt like Dianne's Kea. You use scrappy pieces of fabric on a calico base. If you make a small scale picture in class you will finish it quicker than making a larger piece. You can create almost anything using this method

Psychedelic Splash Whale Quilt

Sunday November 3, 10am - 3pm NZ$35

Dianne has designed this fun children's quilt (or adults if you love whales) using raw edge piecing so it goes together very quickly and only uses 2 fabrics (but you can use more) It is so quick to put together you will start quilting this on the day.

Craft Classes June/July 2013

I am holding the following craft classes in June and July 2013.

A Painted Quilt 2 x Tuesdays 11th & 25th June 7-9pm $28  
Would you like to learn how to create a quilt like Dianne did for her Tote & Gloat challenge entry. Quilt a design and then ‘paint’ the applique in. The first Tuesday you will quilt your design, the 2nd Tuesday you will ‘paint’ the applique shape. Make a small piece in class to get it finished and see how easy it can be yet how complicated it looks. Machine quilting experience recommended.

Modern Squares Patchwork Quilt Sunday 16th June 10am—3pm $35
Sew these easy squares into blocks with a narrow sashing strip and then add wider sashing strips between blocks. You can make this quilt look modern by using a plain fabric for the sashing. A couple of different settings available.

Purse Needlebook Tuesday 18th June 7-9pm $15 + $5 pattern (special price)
Dianne has created this fun little needlebook in the shape of a purse. There are 3 different purse designs. They will all look different depending on the fabric you choose to make it from. Be wild, modern, floral etc. A lovely little gift for friends. This shows the purse open with the needles in place.

Naturescapes Wallhanging Sunday 23 June 10am –3pm $35
Dianne will show you how you can incorporate photos printed on cotton fabric into pieces that are little shots of nature stitched. Add a variety of materials to create and embellish your scene—lace, buttons, wood, ribbon, yarn etc.

Machine Narrow Curve Strip Piecing Thursday 27 June 7-9pm $15
Dianne will show you how easy it can be to machine sew in a narrow curved strip of fabric into your work. Can be strips made into blocks or larger pieces.

Machine Quilting Fillers Wednesday 12th June &/or 3rd July $15 each night
Would you like to improve your machine quilting skills? You have the basics but need practice, come along to one or both nights and Dianne will guide you along the way. You can make a little sampler like her strippy piece if you want to try lots of narrow fillers, just let Dianne know and she will give you the pattern to make prior to class.

Project Case Tuesday 9th July 7-9pm $15
Dianne has designed a simple fabric project case that has a clear vinyl front so you can see what is in the case with a fabric back and sides. Zip across the top to hold the work neatly inside. Keep all the bits of fabric, patterns, threads etc in a nice little package all together so that you can see what’s inside at a glance. Why not make several, one for each project you are working on.

Beginners Felting
Would you like to learn wet felting? Dianne is trying to arrange a class for you, probably sometime in August. If you could be interested please contact me for more details.
